Thanks to the hundreds of you who gave your time and input to the project. It would have been impossible to conceive this vision without your ideas.

The products of this process are the beginning of a larger conversation at PSU. The Student Union 2020 process included no decision-making about design or funding, but synthesized stakeholder input into an aspirational design demonstrating the possibilities for our union.

Student Union Design Concepts

We’ve been hard at work with our team revising concepts and creating designs and layouts that are functional and beautiful. Take a look at these latest concepts and let us know what you think. Also be on the lookout for a few public open houses on campus in early April during which you can stop in and talk to the PSU students and staff and consultant team that have been working on this project.

Once you’ve opened the photo galleries, click to view the images in Flickr and you will see descriptions of each concepts.

PSU Project Team visits University of Washington Student Union

On December 15, 2011, a group from the PSU Smith Memorial Student Union 2020 project team traveled up to the University of Washington in Seattle to explore their nearly-complete student union renovation - http://depts.washington.edu/sauf/

We learned all about the lengthy process UW went through and how they worked to ensure that students had their voices heard in the project. Check out the photos of us touring the site.

Concept Floor Plans and Sections

We’ve been hard at work continually updating design concepts and ensuring that the feedback you’ve provided us guides the process. Check out the “Work Session 2.5 Concept” photos from this gallery for new floor plans and a building section that shows one way in which Smith could be dramatically improved.

Updated Student Union Concepts

Here are the latest concept designs that PSU and its team devised in the most recent project work session. From November 29 – Dec 1, we spent three intense days working with PSU students and employees at various events and open houses to come up with revised concepts.

The slideshow here presents design concept images along with background information about the project. Take a look.

We want to know what you think about these concepts; please comment below or email the project team.

Early Design Concepts

From October 18-21, 2011, the project team was on campus designing concepts for a future student union. Their ideas came from meeting with groups of students and employees (pictures also shown). These are very preliminary sketches, but we welcome any feedback you may have. Most of the concepts are designed on the existing site of the current Smith Memorial Student Union.
